Laser Asia Pacific Championship

Sandringham Yacht Club will be hosting the Laser Asia Pacific Championships as part of the Olympic Classes Regatta 14th - 19th January 2008. With the Australian Laser Championship at Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron finishing on the 4th January 2008 it is expected there will be a large number of sailors competing in the waters off Sandringham. As an ISAF grade 1 event the Olympic Classes Regatta provides sailors a chance to improve their world ranking, with final placings moving them up or down the list. 

As the 2008 Beijing Olympics approach many sailors will be vying for a place on their national Olympic Sailing Team and with the Australian Olympic Sailing Team having been selected in Septemeber the top sailors will be looking to hone their skills against the best in the World and see where they stand.

With the 2008 Laser World Championships being held at Terrigal in New South Wales 5 - 13 February the numerous Laser events Sail Melbourne is hosting in January will provide an excellent opportunity for international sailors to settle in to the Australian climate and sailing conditions.

The Laser class experiences one of the largest fleets at World and National Championships and is one of the most competitve of the Olympic Classes. Sailed both by male and female the only difference is the size of the rig, and with strict class rules the Laser class pits sailor against sailor on equal terms, with personal skill, ability and tactics taking presedence over boat design.
