AIODA International Optimist Australian Championship

AIODA invites all junior sailors to compete in the 9^th Australian and Open International Optimist Dinghy Championships being conducted at Frankston Yacht Club in conjunction with the Australian Youth Championships between January 6^th and 11^th of January 2008.

There will be a Green Fleet division for Little Tackers.

The first five placed Australians will earn the opportunity to represent Australia at the 2008 International Optimist Dinghy World Championships in Turkey in July 2008.

AIODA will again select the Australian Optimist Sailing Team at these Nationals for the kids to come through a Yachting Australia endorsed coaching squad that competes at Adelaide International Regatta, New Zealand and Singapore Nationals.

Teams Racing has been introduced for the first time at the Nationals and this will be a ‘State of Origin’ team’s event, Internationals are encouraged to submit a team.

Host club Frankston Yacht Club is located on Port Phillip just 45km south east of the Melbourne CBD. The club enjoys a wide expanse of sandy beach allowing easy access off the beach water access.

The local sailing features regular sea breezes, flat water, close course areas, excellent beach launching and lovely warm weather – PERFECT!

With the OAMPS Australian Youth Championships being held at the same time, it is a wonderful opportunity for the junior sailors to see the pathway of the Youths through Lasers, 420’s, Hobies and RSX. During the regatta the kids will get the chance to listen to why the youth sail the boats they do at ‘The Great which boat Debate’  

The dates of the Nationals follow shortly after the 2^nd Pacific Rim and Open International Optimist Championships at Mornington Yacht Club, just 15 minutes south, between December 27th and 31st, and the inaugural ‘Optisail’ International coaching clinic between the 2^nd and 4^th of January.
